What is Total Privacy?

Total Privacy is a privacy tool that helps you maintain your privacy by cleaning up all traces of your Internet and PC activities. It helps you erase data you may have entered like personal information in online forms, URLs in your browser address bar, files you searched for, etc. Data that otherwise would be exposed to other users of your computer. It also helps you clear the files from both the Temp & the Temporary Internet folders.

What are the minimum requirements for installing Total Privacy?

The software is compatible with Win ME / NT / 2000 / XP / 2003. You should have IE 4.0 or higher version. If you are using Netscape you should have version 7.0 or higher.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small files in ASCII text format. They originate from servers on sites on the World Wide Web and end up stored on the user's hard drive without his knowledge or permission. Cookies hold the information so that the server knows what the visitor's interests in the site are. A cookie can track your surfing on the Internet.

What are Temporary Internet Files? Why should I clean them?

Temporary Internet Files Folder is the location on your hard disk where web pages you view on the Internet and images are stored as you view them. Their supposed purpose is to speed up your access to the Internet sites that you revisit. However, these files accumulate rapidly and in a few days of using the Internet. They just take up room on your hard drive. By cleaning these files you will be protecting your Privacy as well as saving the disc space.

What is IE History? Why should I clean it?

Internet Explorer keeps track of your viewed pages in the History list. IE creates shortcuts to the pages you viewed in this and previous browsing sessions. In this way looking at the IE History anybody can know the pages and files you have viewed.

Forms and Password History contain record of all entries you make while filling web forms online including name, email address and password fields, by default.

How do I clean Recycle Bin?

To clean the Recycle Bin, choose the Windows Options Tab. Check the Empty Recycle Bin option. Click on the Clean Now button. The contents from the Recycle Bin are completely removed.

Is it safe to delete files in the temp folder?

Yes it is safe to delete the files from temp folder .If any program is using the temp file and we delete, there may be possibility the program not respond so first close all application then run Total Privacy. Even if we delete files in temp folder required by a program, it will be again be created by that program.

Will manually deleting all files in Temporary Internet folder be as effective as running Total Privacy?

No, if you manually delete files then they will be recreated with the help of index.dat file when you open IE next time and its not removing your trace. Index.dat files cannot be deleted manually because Windows is using this while windows is running. Total Privacy is programmed such that it removes the trace from index.dat files.

Does Total Privacy support Netscape?

Yes, Total Privacy supports Netscape from version 7.0 onwards.

What is an index.dat file?

Index.dat are files hidden on your computer that contain all of the Web sites that you have ever visited. Every URL, and every Web page is listed there. There are three index.dat files present:
a. Cookies index.dat
b. HistoryHistory.IE5index.dat
c. Temporary Internet FilesContent.IE5index.dat.
Index.dat files keep a copy of whatever data present in that respective folder and they continue keeping those records even after you have deleted the contents of those folders.

Why the presence of index.dat files is a threat to privacy?

By looking at the index.dat files anybody can know about the websites you have visited, files or data that you have viewed.

Is Total Privacy a spyware?

Spywares are programs that are put in someone's computer to secretly gather information about the user and relay it to advertisers or other interested parties. Total Privacy is not a spyware, and does not gather any information from any user.

Is there any way to recover data after cleaning up with Total Privacy?

No. Once the data has been deleted using Total Privacy, it cannot be recovered.

What is AntiSpam?

AntiSpam is an intelligent plugin that helps you filter spam in your Outlook/Outlook Express email application. It automatically identifies and moves spam mails into a special Spams folder and ensures that only legitimate mail reaches your Inbox. As the mail arrives in the Process folder, it is immediately scanned by the AntiSpam plugin. The plugin automatically updates itself and gets the latest spam signatures. It uses the keywords in the message headers and message body, domain, Spam blacklists and also the internal Banned and Safe Lists to determine the probability of a mail being Spam and assigns the mail a score. Mails with scores above a preset threshold are marked as spam. Mails from people you correspond with are safely delivered to your Inbox.

How does AntiSpam identify Spam?

The plugin uses keywords in the message headers and message body, domain, Spam blacklists and also the internal Banned and Safe Lists to determine the probability of a mail being Spam and assigns the mail a score. Mails with scores above a preset threshold of 100 are marked as spam.

What is Safe List?

The Safe List is a list of Email addresses of Sender which are safe and not Spam. Any Email address can also be added manually to the list for the filtering of Legitamate Mails, Mails from the Email addresses in Safe List will be delivered to your Inbox regardless of their Spam Count

What is Banned list?

The Banned List is a list of email addresses of senders who have sent you mail that you have identified as Junk. Any future mail from these senders is automatically tagged as Spam. You can add email addresses to this list manually. Also when you identify a mail as Junk, the sender is automatically added to this list.

What is Password Manager?
